Shall We Dance

Who has watched strictly come dancing and thought they could do better than those on the TV? Well here’s the opportunity to come along and strut your stuff . . .  The Works, Cornwall’s dance and theatre development agency would like you to join them for a delightful afternoon of dancing, live music, tea and cake at The Big Bodmin Tea Dance, in the Public Rooms, Bodmin on Sunday 6th June, 2pm – 5pm.

Following on from the success of last year’s tea dance, held in May at the Princess Pavilions, Falmouth, another afternoon of fun has been organised to get everyone up and dancing. The Big Bodmin Tea Dance is a great event for all the family – why not come along and have a waltz with your granny, or a fox-trot with your granddad, or maybe even a try a bit of jiving?

The afternoon will include live performances from The Mark Hadley Quartet, who will be playing all the classics such as the waltz, tango, rumba, and quickstep.   Also performing on the day will be Java 5!  Java Five is an all male accepella group from Cornwall, singing songs from the 4o's to present day. Their smooth tones and lively performances are in popular demand with audiences of all ages.  Not only will there be a full afternoon of dancing but also you will be able to enjoy a lovely cup of tea and a wonderful selection of cakes.

The Big Bodmin Tea Dance is the final event in a year-long programme of activity to offer dance activities to older people across Cornwall.  Funded by FEAST, The Works and Arts for Health Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, have been working together to increase opportunities for older people to enjoy dancing, in residential homes and day centre’s from Penzance to Saltash. In this last phase, The Works and Age Concern have got together to provide a series of refresher sessions and workshops, in 17 different locations, to help get people dancing.

As well as teaching participants to waltz and foxtrot, or have a go at the American Smooth, a dance style that incorporates the Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Tango and Foxtrot, the refresher sessions will also help to build core strength and fitness.
