SUMMARY:The Adventures of Andy Kershaw - "No Off Switch" autobiography
DESCRIPTION:
The Adventures Of Andy Kershaw

"No Off Switch" Andy's autobiography

Andy Kershaw truly has no'Off Switch'. Already he’s lived ten lives to everyone else’s one.

As a teenager, he was promoting major rock gigs.

He was Billy Bragg’s driver and roadie one day and presenting Whistle Testand Live Aid the next. A born rebel and a maverick, he’s combined his passion for music with a lunatic curiosity and an instinct for frontline journalism, reporting for the BBC and the broadsheets from the world’s most extreme countries – Iraq, North Korea (he’s been four times), Haiti, Angola and Rwanda during the genocide.

Andy is among the UK’s most-decorated broadcasters, working for Radio 4 and, for fifteen years, as a Radio 1 DJ, where he shared an office with John Peel and legendary producer John Walters. It was Andy’s enthusiasms that made him the central figure in the popularisation of world music. More recently a presenter onRadio 3, he has also worked for the Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen. His record collection weighs seven tons and he’s seen his own intestines. He’s been knocked down but he’s back up again – as strong as a monkey’s tail!

Andy Kershaw was born in Rochdale in 1959 and was liberated by Bob Dylan. Barely out of his teens, and looking about eleven, he presented Whistle Test andLive Aid for the BBC. For most of the past twenty-five years he has had a weekly radio show pioneering extraordinary music from all over the world.

He is also a serious foreign journalist, having reported for – among others – Independent, Daily Telegraph, Observer and BBC Radio 4’s Today, The World Tonight and From Our Own Correspondent. His life has been like High Fidelity amplified ten-fold. In a war zone.

Whether it applies to foreign adventures, romances, motorcycles, nervous breakdowns or relationships with a piece of music, Andy has always lived by his most reliable maxim: if you’re going to have one, have a big one.

SUMMARY:Muttnik: First Dog in Space
DESCRIPTION:
3….2…1…BLAST OFF!!! Muttnik is a stray: scavenging on the streets of Moscow until one day she is captured and finds herself at the Russian Space Centre to become the first ever ‘astro-dog’, going 'where no dog has gone before'! This physical theatre show for children and childish adults blasts off from The Lyric on February 13th and tells the stunning, true story of the 1957 Sputnik 2 rocket-dog, Laika! For all ages (down to 3 years).

Having zoomed through sell out UK tours in 2006-2008 and ‘5 star’ performances at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Muttnik is blasting off again but with a new solo performer: Bridport-born Tessa Bide. This is Tessa's first solo professional show and it is coming to The Lyric (Bridport) straight after opening at the Lyric Hammersmith (London) 2 days previously! The show is then zooming around the UK for it's Spring/Summer tour.

We need you to help Muttnik as she learns to fly a rocket and dance in zero gravity. Will she skate on the rings of Saturn, what will be her first message home and what will it be like to dig holes on the moon?

Told with dance, music and puppetry but without dialogue, this enchanting tale feeds the imagination and is suitable for children over three. Created by award-winning performer and early years performance expert Niki McCretton (Resident Artist at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts and co-owner of The Lyric Theatre).

The show is approximately 1 hour long and the doors open roughly 20 minutes before the start of the show. Pre-booking tickets is strongly recommended.

“It's just a beautifully thought-through, very funny and resourceful piece of physical theatre that works for children and adults alike.” Mary Brennan (The Herald)

“An absolute delight from start to finish... A rare treat for all the family” Sarah Peterkin (Take Art)

Harry Mottram (The Bristol Evening Post)

“Kid’s physical theatre at its most simple but effective.” Allan Radcliffe (The List)
