Prior to living in Cornwall, Sarah taught samba dance with Oxford’s carnival band, Sol Samba for four years. During this time she held weekly classes, prepared choreographies for performances and organised master classes with guest teachers. She has danced in prominent carnival groups in Notting Hill carnival, Thames Festival, as well as other carnivals in the South East. She has and have been to Salvador, Brazil twice to train with exceptional teachers. Currently Sarah's main passion are the dances of the North east of Brazil, with strong African and folk influences.
Carnival based projects and Qualifications
Jan 2010 and 2008- Afro-Brazilian dance training in Salvador, Brazil
June 2011- prepared Penzamba dancers for Mazey Day
Oct 2010: Produced Carnival day at Pegasus Theatre including percussion instrument making and dance workshops.
July 2010- carnival: Artist in residence at St. Nicholas school Oxford
May- June 2010: Carnival artist and teacher working with families in Buckinghamshire with N-Gage to lead up to the carnival in Mad about Wadston
Oct 2009: Produced Afro-Latino weekend at the North Wall Theatre, Oxford including dance song and percussion workshops and professional performances by guest teachers.
Jan-Feb 2009: Carnival teacher in Mitchell Brook primary school in Neasden, London.
Oct 2008: Produced an Afro-Brazilian cultural weekend celebrating through song, music and dance and culminating in participants and professional performance at the Pegasus Theatre.
June 2008: Project coordinator for Sol Samba costume project, Oxford and Cherwell Valley College,
Education Qualifications and training
Sept 2006-June 2007: PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education and PETLS Basic teaching qualification
May-July 2006: NCFE Level 2 in Certificate in video production, Oxford Women’s training scheme
1997-2000: BA (Hons) 3D Craft Design in wood, metal, plastics and ceramics. University of Brighton. Final grade- 2:1
