Ruth Pethybridge

Ruth recently relocated to Falmouth after receiving a studentship to undertake a practice-based phd at University College Falmouth looking at cross-generational dance practice and choreography. She has started teaching the 'Community Choreography Project' working with dancers of all ages and abilities in the Falmouth area. Since graduating in 2000 Ruth has been working in varied community settings as a Dance Artist and Project Manager - for Oxford Youth Dance, Anjali Dance Company, and Pegasus Theatre among others and in roles such as Education Co-ordinator for Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company. Also choreographing for theatrical productions at Chipping Norton Theatre. In 2006 she gained a distinction from the University of Surrey for an MA Dance Cultures, Histories and Practices and went on to receive the Lisa Ullman travelling scholarship for research into movement and dance to further her love for Argentinian Tango. Her subsequent article ‘Un Abrazo sin Tiempo’ was published in Autumn 2008. Ruth presented her paper Community Dance Values in Capitalist Society at the 2008 Foundation for Community Dance national conference. Ruth has taught people of all ages, from young babies to the elderly, she has worked closely with Cecilia Macfarlane and Crossover Intergenerational Dance Company. Something she hopes to develop in Cornwall. Recent choreographic commissions include the Solo’s Project 2 and site specific work for Dancin’ Oxford festival.Site specific work continues to be an interest she would like to develop in the Cornish landscape. "I have always seen dance as research, the body is full of wonder and surprises and to have the opportunity to investigate it at this level is fantastic, bringing me new inspiration and energy as an artist" RP
