THE AVEBURY CYCLE: Year on Year Dances for Women.

Held close to the circles of Avebury in Wiltshire, THE AVEBURY CYCLE offers specialist dance space for women only, once a year, year on year.   

Designed for women who hold a vision, or walk a creative path - THE AVEBURY CYCLE offers an open, breathable structure on an ongoing basis that aims to support and inspire through its transformational dance form - Spiderflower.

Spiderflower has been in development as a dance movement system for over 12 years.  It is inspired and informed by ancient and indigenous life ways and ceremony. Yet is concerned entirely in the choreography that resides between the body and earth - in the here and the now.  

Spiderflower is an incredibly powerful form - initially it is impro based.  It carries technique and discipline, is intensely focused and committed, can move toward performance, yet it is free-form. 

Powerfully grounded in earth and body - the dance form invites deeper creative impulses to find expression.  Spiderflower will work to develop a performers ability at all levels of movement whilst at the same time the work very often proves to be transformational at a personal level.

For The Avebury Cycle - Spiderflower carries a specialist strand of dance movement for women only - as our bodies on a biological level - follow their own specific dance.

Following the pattern of a continual spiral rooted in the earth year the dances turn on the wheel, changing theme and focus every year, yet our work around vision remains core.

Women may join at any point as the spiral moves on. They may continue for as long as they wish year over year, take a break - come back. 

This is a space where women can dance hard, really rock and be authentic.  It is a place of respect and wonder at the phenomenon we are. 

Women from any artistic discipline or walk of life, aged 18 years + regardless of dance experience, are wholly welcome.

No 2:  The Huntress, The Lover & The Flower Drum - May 2012

"On a turn of the wheel, we move to the heart.  As the drum beats in the chest, it rocks in time with the rhythm of ecstasy in life.  This is a dance of flowering."

THE HUNTRESS THE LOVER & THE FLOWER DRUM is the second dance for The Avebury Cycle. 

It dances to manifest the vision through the heart.  Weaving the languages of earth and body at this time of many flowers, we look to the place of the LOVER. 

The dance dives in to how the nature of love, passion, ecstasy and sexual energy figure inside the dynamics of creation.

The HUNTRESS carries the bow of the dark crescent in the nearly full moon on her back.  She stands beside the LOVER as an unexpected and powerful ally. 

Playing a critical role in relation to the LOVER - and indeed her flowering vision, the Huntress protects that which she loves.  Understanding wholly the dynamics of life and death - her sharp skills and instinct bring edges of realism to the ecstatic heights the lover may ascend to.  Their relationship is a co-creative one.

In the dance that exists between HUNTRESS & LOVER - THE FLOWER DRUM holds the beat.  Rocking in time with the drum that beats in the chest, the land and beyond, it rides the rhythms of time and timelessness found within the language of the heart when it is able to flower - inside creation.

Non-residential.  Refreshments provided.  Places are limited.  Prep work included.  Advanced bookings only.
