This course shows you how to get to grips with tackling Shakespeare. Literally. We will be exploring ways to lift Shakespearian text off the page and find ways of allowing the text to speak for itself, through the body, breath and voice. Once and for all this course will banish the idea that Shakespeare is difficult, and only to be spoken by the elite. The morning will start with practical exercises as a group, to build skill and confidence in breathing life into the text. In the afternoon we’ll be working on the text itself. Students can bring their own texts or these can be provided.

Kate is a qualified and highly experienced voice coach. She has a background in theatre, psychology and applied linguistics, and is thus uniquely placed to work with the complexities of human relationships and communication as expressed through the voice, body, feeling and word. With a BA in Drama and Spanish, Kate’s career started in California where she took up MA studies in cognitive and psycho-linguistics while teaching writing at San Diego State University. Returning to the UK she toured with the Royal National Theatre as an actress. She graduated from The Central School of Speech and Drama with a PG Dip in Voice Studies in 1996. Since then Kate has coached in a variety of professional environments from theatre, film, the NHS and the corporate sector. Work at Drama Schools includes the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Oxford School of Drama, Central School of Speech and Drama. ALRA and Webber Douglas.
