Callout for new work- Gaining Ground 2012

The Burrell Theatre, Young Promoters/Menu and The Works Dance and Theatre Cornwall are teaming up to present an exciting evening of fresh new dance work from emerging artists based in the Southwest. This is an opportunity for up and coming dance-makers to showcase their work to new audiences, and for audiences in Cornwall to see the latest work from local emerging artists.

Applications are now open to be a part of this event. Emerging companies/artists based in Cornwall, Devon and Plymouth are invited to apply to be selected to present their work at the Burrell Theatre Truro, Cornwall on Saturday 13th October 2012.

We are looking for:

• Pieces  made by non-students who are based in Cornwall, Devon or Plymouth and have been working professionally for 5 years or less, or who are new to dance-making
• Work that is innovative, contemporary and varied in style (could be dance theatre, pure dance, experimental dance-based etc.)
• Work that features live dance (as opposed to Dance for Screen work)
• New work, made within the last year
• Partly developed pieces of minimum 10 minutes maximum 30 minutes in length, that would benefit from feedback and a final phase of development
• Work that has simple technical requirements (projection possible but must be simple)
• Artists that have ambition for their work

Each company will receive:

• A technical rehearsal and performance slot on Saturday 13th October 2012
• Technical, box office, front of house and marketing support
• The opportunity to be considered for a cash prize to support the further development of the work
• A share of the box office takings if you do not win the cash prize
• Opportunity for audience discussion and feedback
• Opportunity for networking with other artists
• A DVD copy of the event
• Feedback on your work from a panel of arts professionals
