Cornwall Youth Dance Company has been running for over 23 years, and is the county flagship contemporary youth dance company for dancers aged 13-19. Our current home is at the Performance Centre in Penryn, University College Falmouth.

Led by Sally Williams and Helen Tiplady of C-Scape Dance Company, CYDC meet every second Sunday during term time for training sessions to develop technical, performance and creative skills. Company members also have the chance to take their Dance Leaders Award, developing skills in leadership through dance. The company is managed and supported by The Works Dance and Theatre Cornwall.

CYDC perform at least once per term within the county or region in venues, at outdoor sites and festivals and unusual spaces.We work with a range of well-known choreographers and companies to have masterclassses, workshops and intensive residencies during school holidays, as well as commissioning new work by choreographers from within the county and beyond. CYDC also work with local practitioners to develop the company’s skills and repertoire, and to take classes in other dance styles such as ballet, tango and commercial dance.

CYDC have always strived for artistic variation, and have worked with both locally and internationally recognised practitioners and companies such as C-Scape Dance Company, Motionhouse, Lea Anderson, Company Malakhi, Tavaziva, Rambert, Jamsin Vardimon.

RECENT WORK!

In the autumn term 2011 CYDC had a residential at Woodland Valley Farm making some exciting work in a new environment. CYDC also worked with professional visiting dance companies Panta Rei Dans Teater and Small Petit Klein who they learnt a great deal from. Autumn term 2011 culmintaed with a performance at The Performance Centre, UCF where they joined Shallal Dance Company and some other performers at a Christmas Performance Platform where the comapny also took part in a photo shoot!

CYDC would like to thank the Sue Hooper Trust for supporting the company through bursaries given to some members in the Autumn Term - support like this is invaluable and much appreciated!

During 2012 CYDC are set to go and watch NDT2 - a dance company from the Netherlands performing at the Hall for Cornwall as well as work with various practitioners.

Throughout the Spring CYDC are working with Lois Taylor on a piece that will be performed in march at the Vital Spark event in Liskeard.

In July 2012 CYDC will be performing at Sterts Theatre in A Hooligans' Game alongside Cornwall Youth Theatre Company as part of a cultural olympiad performance.
