Based in Penzance in Cornwall, Bash Street Theatre has built an international reputation for inventive, fast-moving, musical, street theatre shows.

Since our first performance, in Morlaix, France in 1991, we have created 16 different productions and toured to major festivals throughout the UK, as well as in France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Poland, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Bulgaria, Austria, Japan and Hong Kong.

In 2006, Bash Street won the Caixa Catalunya Award for the Best Street Theatre Show, at the Fira de Teatre in Tàrrega, Spain, with their acclaimed silent movie show, CLIFFHANGER!
Our aim is to develop street theatre that is
accessible to all ages, cultures and backgrounds.

Bash Street is a small independent company run by partners, Simon Pullum and JoJo Pickering, who founded the company in 1991. We have a core
company of four performers, but we also work with other performers, directors, and artists on a project-by-project basis.

We have developed a portfolio of dynamic outdoor shows to fit many different events and festivals, from mid-scale outdoor physical theatre shows, indoor shows for village halls and small theaters.

Key Projects

CLIFFHANGER! a real life silent movie

A real life silent movie... BEST STREET THEATRE SHOW award winner at Fira de Teatre al Carrer at Tàrrega, Spain, September 2006 With falling buildings, dare-devil escapology, slap-stick humour and live piano accompaniment, CLIFFHANGER! is a 50-minute long, silent-movie style production that returns to the golden age of the silver screen. Inspired by Buster Keaton’s short film ‘Convict 13’, it follows the fortunes of a love-sick café waiter as he becomes innocently embroiled in a prison escape. When the heroine is abducted by a convict, there ensues a series of hair-raising episodes as our hero strives to rescue his new-found love. CLIFFHANGER! has played to enthusiastic audiences throughout the UK and also in the Republic of Ireland, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Spain and Italy. In 2010 the show will be performed for the first time in China, at the Macau International Arts Festival, and also in Norway, at the Porsgrun International Theatre Festival. Bash Street shows are truly international, having been enjoyed by audiences of young and old alike at major festivals throughout the UK, Europe, and the Far East since 1991.

The Lion Tamer

The Lion Tamer is the latest in the silent movie repertoire of the award winning Bash Street Theatre. A melodrama full of action, pathos and silent comedy from a bygone era, The Lion Tamer combines circus skills, slapstick comedy and an original musical score to bring you a black and white movie show from the golden age of the silver screen. A down-at-heel showman is rapidly running out of acts for his travelling circus when a stranger arrives in town. When the lion tamer has an unfortunate accident, the newcomer is 'volunteered' for the job with catastrophic and hilarious results. The Lion Tamer, inspired by the comic genius of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, has been specially designed to tour village halls and small-scale theatres.

The Station

Set in a dilapidated railway station in the age of steam locomotives, The Station is an hour-long, silent comedy adventure show from Bash Street Theatre. Be prepared for a dramatic train crash, a dare-devil rescue and some great comedy action from this award-winning street theatre company. The story involves a gang of art thieves who are on the search for a stolen masterpiece that has been delivered to a remote railway station. The situation becomes further complicated by the arrival of a band of musicians for a Grand Concert to be given that night. The station staff, of course, set out to make sure that all ‘lost property’ is returned to its rightful owner. The Station combines physical theatre and silent movie stunts with live music performed on accordion. It has been performed at festivals throughout the UK, as well as in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Poland and Spain.
