New £35,000 Commissioning & Touring Award
house have consulted with over 90 venues in the South East and East of England about what work they want to programme, what gaps exist and what challenges they face. Many programmers spoke about ‘the well made play’, about needing a hook to reach the audience, about classic theatre. At the same time Arts Council England, rightly places an emphasis on innovation, excellence and extending the form. Our view is that it is possible to achieve both.
The challenge we are putting to companies is to create a contemporary piece of classic theatre that has wide appeal for audiences, and that is suitable for touring on the small to mid-scale to venues of up to 250 seats.
The commission is for a maximum of £35,000, broken down as follows:
- £20,000 production commission – to cover the associated costs of developing and producing a new piece of classic contemporary theatre.
- Up to £15,000 for touring. house will book and support an initial tour to up to 20 venues across the East and South East
In addition the commissioners will offer contacts, advice, specialist intelligence, equipment, producing expertise, rehearsal space, etc. The call is open to national and international artists.Ideally we would like to see the commission delivered in spring or autumn 2013. We are looking for an idea that would not be possible without this investment but have no view on the content or length of the finished piece. From these a short list of 10 – 15 will be selected to produce a more detailed proposal to include a fuller description of the idea, biog’s of potential artists, budget, other sources of income, recent artistic experiences, etc.

From these we will select 3 – 6 to interview.

Just a quick note*Arts Club Theatre Company*Patrick Street Productions*Exxiit 22 @Capilano University I was recently cotrcered by the marketing department for releasing a press release with the arts club and not the arts club theatre company.
I have seen a second key on aethonr installation; I am lead to believe this is left over from a previous installation of office, either on this machine or from a migration from aethonr machine. My advice would to go with the top key but I cannot be sure of which one to choose exactly. Please let me know how you get on.
