The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) has today recommended to the Government that skilled classical ballet dancers & skilled contemporary dancers remain on the shortage occupation list. Dance UK, Society of London Theatres / Theatrical Management Association, Independent Theatre Council & the NCA worked together to advocate for this to happen. Please note that in paragraph 5.86, the MAC recommends that the sector reflect on the issue of pay. We’ll have to bear this in mind next time we have to make a submission to the MAC. We now need to wait to see how the Government responds to the MAC’s report. The Government has always accepted the MAC’s recommendations in the past, but we shouldn’t count our chickens.
