You can still support City of Lights!

A record-breaking 25,000 people swelled the streets of Truro to watch the big Christmas lights switch-on. Crowds flocked to the city centre on Wednesday night to enjoy the annual City of Lights festival.

Community groups and School Children paraded through the city centre before the grand switch-on of the city's festive illuminations in Boscawen Street.

The bucket collection on the night raised £2200, so we would like to thank those who dug deep in their pockets on the night. However in order to secure the continued success of this community event and as a free event to attend, City of Lights relies on the generosity of the public, sponsors and partners, did you know that if every person that attended could spare just £1 we could cover the cost for this wonderful event? If you came along and enjoyed this year’s City of Lights, being dubbed “One of the best yet” and want to see it continue you can still donate.

Another way of supporting City of Lights is through Vodafone just text giving campaign - You can make donations of up to £10 by texting COLT11 followed by 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 to 70070 to make your donation. It doesn’t matter which network provider you are with, the text message is free and all of the donations will be passed straight to City of Lights and will help us continue to deliver this November spectacular.

Tony Crosby, lead artists - sums up the event for him “ it was a fantastic night all round, we were blessed with the weather and what a wonderful crowd, full of happy beaming faces, I would just like to thank everyone who was involved from the huge team of artist, supports, helpers, School children everyone who made it possible. Now we really need people to value what we have done and help us to make it better in the future but we can’t do that without the financial support of the public. If you weren’t able to reach the bucket on the night then please support us using the just text giving number because unfortunately due to the current economic climate that without the public support there is a real risk that this wonderful event may not be possible in years to come”

Also you can now take home a little piece of this magical event in the City of Lights 2012 Calendar. A perfect local Christmas gift for friends and family!
