BIG IDEAS

the artistry of large scale live animation

A Conference Event

7 & 8 October 2010

An inspiring conference event, with a difference at which artists and creative producers are centre stage.

The Puppet Centre, Independent Street Arts Network (ISAN), UK Carnival Centre for the Arts (Luton), and Emergency Exit Arts are collaborating with University of Winchester to create this unique event.

This conference event aims to explore the creation of large scale live animation structures as used in carnival, street arts and puppetry for outdoor performance in celebratory work and large scale theatrical productions within the UK.

A two-day feast for the imagination focusing on the poetry and artistry of “Big Ideas”, the conference event will take place on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th October 2010 at the new UK Centre for Carnival Arts, Luton.

The conference event will explore the creation and presentation of large scale outdoor puppetry, street arts and carnival animated structures and aim to provide artists and creative producers with an opportunity to see some of the latest developments in large-scale animations such as those used in Warhorse, Big Man Walking, The Lion King, Company La Machine, Handspring, Mandinga Arts, Kinetika, Emergency Exit Arts, Imagineer Productions, MSK2000 and Rampage (speakers and workshop leaders still to be confirmed).

If you are a puppeteer, a carnival artist, an outdoor performing artist, company or creative producer this event is designed for you to explore the making of large-scale live animation work. There will be hands on experiences, the chance to try out how things work, time for companies to present their work to producers at an Ideas Summit, as well as hearing from some of the biggest players in the sector.
